Who's going to help the next generation know Jesus if we don't?
Our Children and Youth Team needs caring adults who'll teach, listen, encourage, and walk with kids and teens as they grow in faith.
Whether you've got one hour a week or a special talent to share, there's a place for you.
Look at the opportunities below and pray about where God is calling you to serve.
EIM Safe Environment Training
Help us keep SJN a safe place for everyone. EIM Safe Environment Training gives adult volunteers the tools to protect children, youth, and vulnerable adults while serving in our parish.
Upcoming EIM Training at SJN: Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 6-9 pm Both sessions are in Morris Hall.
Can't make either session? You can still serve.
Submit an inquiry or contact us below, and we'll help you find another training.
All volunteers age 18 and older must complete EIM Safe Environment Training before serving.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is offered to our youngest parishioners ages 3-6 during weekday mornings once a week and to elementary aged children 6-9 years old on Wednesday evenings. This ministry needs atrium assistants who enjoy being with children and can support the lead catechist during class times and prepare materials.
New catechists are needed to lead classes and complete Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level 1 training. Catechists usually serve once a week during the program year and spend 30 minutes preparing the space and materials before each session. Classes run from September to April.
Artists, those with carpentry skills, and anyone who enjoys making materials are welcome to assist outside of class time by creating new materials for the Level 2 atrium. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Training Level I: Part 1 was already offered at SJN November 2025-February 2026. Click here to learn about Level I: Part 2 Training (September 2026-February 2027)
*You can attend Part 2 if you complete Part 1 at another location to finish the full Level 1 training and receive your certificate. For questions, email Meghan Jackson at [email protected].
The word ‘Catechist’ means ‘one who echoes the faith.’ Children's Faith Formation Catechists help children in kindergarten through 5th grade learn about the faith by walking with them as they grow into the next generation of Catholics. They teach lessons, lead activities, and help children grow closer to Jesus in a fun and caring environment. This ministry is perfect for parishioners who enjoy working with children, sharing their faith, and helping young people learn about God. Catechists serve on Sundays from 10:15 to 11:15 am during the school year.Weekly Children's Faith Formation Catechist Workshop/Retreat Sunday, August 23, 2026 | 10:30 am–1 pm | St. Timothy Room
